Hartfield House Hostel is situated within a former hunting lodge on the Applecross Estate, and is owned and run as a hostel by Hartfield Applecross Limited, a subsidiary of The Applecross Trust.
We take our green credentials very seriously at Hartfield. We are aiming to prioritise environmental practices in all elements of the business, and ensure we put back as much as we take. You can find out more about our environmental efforts here.

Directions from Inverness
A9 to the Torre roundabout
2nd exit onto A835 through Contin and Garve. After Garve, turn left onto the A832 to Achnasheen and Lochcarron.
At Achnasheen roundabout, take the first exit on the A890 to Lochcarron. This changes to the A896 at Lochcarron. Continue on this road through Lochcarron, Kishorn and to the Tornapress Junction.
Take a left to Applecross over the Bealach na Ba pass. This road has switchbacks and is not recommended for those travelling in large motorhomes. If you are in a motorhome, take the alternative route signposted at the Bealach na Ba junction at Tornapress. For everyone else, continue over the Bealach na Ba and you will arrive in Applecross. When you reach the T-junction at the bottom, turn right around the Applecross Bay. Once over the bridge around the bay, you will see a right turn which is signposted Hartfield House Hostel & The Bunkhouse. Take this road for approximately 1km and you will arrive at your destination.
Directions from the coast road and the North
From Torridon, follow signs to Shieldaig. Head past Shieldaig and you will see a right turn to Applecross. Take this road and keep going for approximately 25 miles. You will come in to the Bay area of Applecross heading down the hill. Before you cross the river there will be a left turn signposted Hartfield House Hostel & The Bunkhouse. Follow this road for approximately 1km and you will arrive at your destination.
Bus
There are buses from Applecross to Inverness every Monday and Saturday. You must call and book your place by 6pm the night before. Contact: 01520 722 997. Or check the website
Trains
There are no trains directly to Applecross peninsula. The nearest train station is Strathcarron. Trains run regularly from Inverness to Strathcarron but please bear in mind that you would then need to travel approximately 22 miles to arrive at Hartfield House Hostel & The Bunkhouse.
At Hartfield House hostel in Applecross we have a loyal team who are passionate about the area and the outdoors and provide a fantastic personal service to our guests. Our hostel staff are always willing to go that extra mile in order to make your stay special and possess some exceptional skills that really make Hartfield House unique.
Our housekeeping team are in the building from 0830 each morning until approximately 1400, and are happy to help with any issue. We have a maintenance officer, Robert, who is on site and on call during the course of the week. And we have a reception team that are on the front desk each evening. Overnight we have staff in the on-site accommodation, and the hostel manager lives next door. There is always someone available to help, and you are never fully alone.
Zuzu is our Finance Manager and is also very knowlegeable about the local area, especially wild swimming spots.
Peter is our gardener and is responsble for the lovely flowers we now have to the front of the building. He is tasked with the big job of sorting out our huge grounds over the next few years.
Jess is our Operations Manager. She is on site most of the time and lives close by if there is an emergency of any kind.
